Kris is an experienced education leader with teaching, coaching, and directorship experience. Originally from Northern Wisconsin, Kris moved to the Bay Area to begin her teaching career in 2007 as a Teach for America Corps Member where she taught 5th, 6th, and 7th grade reading and ELA for two years in East San Jose in the Alum Rock Union School District. She moved up the peninsula to teach for three years at KIPP San Francisco Bay Academy in San Francisco. During this time, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Education from Alliant International University. After working at TFA Summer Institute for three summers as a School Director managing teams at public schools in inner-city Chicago, Kris craved more experience coaching adults and solidifying her Spanish in order to communicate with Spanish-speaking families and students. For these reasons, she moved to rural, mountain Costa Rica, where she served as an Academic Manager for two years at The Cloud Forest School (Centro de Educacion Creativa) in Monteverde. In this role, she coached a 10 member bilingual team in grades TK through 4th grade while developing curriculum, building school culture, and engaging learners in the uniqure setting in the cloud forest.
Upon moving back to Wisconsin, she accepted the Woodrow Wilson Fellowship to enroll in the MSOE MBA in Educational Leadership Program while concurrently working as a Co-Principal for the Carmen Schools of Science and Technology Network. During her time in Milwaukee, Kris completed the Accelerate Institute program for school leaders, spending a summer learning at Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern Univeristy. Upon completing these programs, Kris moved back out to the Bay Area to assume the role of Executive Director at The Mission Preparatory School in the heart of the Mission District of San Francisco and held that position over the past four years of school launch.
Her passion is to support educators to differentiate instruction for the needs of every student, and to encourage and nurture fellow educators to develop their strengths and utilize data to inform instruction. She is passionate about outcomes for students and building equitable practice so that all students succeed.
