metropolitan Detroit (the organization’s roots) to a global entity working as a capacity building firm for nonprofits and other community-focused organizations. SCP focuses on five key elements in their work: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion;Education (K-12 and Higher Education); Large-scale Community-based Events (including youth-based events); Leadership Development and Performance Management; Recruitment and Talent Management.

Their work in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion could involve staff diversity training or a diversity dialogue series. For Leadership Development and Performance Management, SCP can provide individual or small group coaching, a leadership structure assessment which includes a response plan, or a performance management workshop. Their work in education includes parent/family and student workshops, as well as professional development and coaching for educators. SCP also lends a hand to organizations through talent management, helping with recruitment, hiring, and retention. In relation to marketing, SCP supports organizations with event planning, start to finish. They recently helped the United Way of Southeastern Michigan put on a career fair, guiding in every aspect from building the layout of the fair, to what the students’ experience would look like, securing a venue, and handling logistics. With so many clients that are community-focused, this seemed like a natural fit to add to their business services. The main vision for SCP is to support and lift up nonprofit and community organizations, in areas that are often overlooked. “We want to build up strategies to strengthen their missions and their organizations overall,” says Will Sexton, communications manager. While their reach has extended beyond Michigan and they’re offering virtual support, a lot of the work they do is hands-on with organizations in and around Detroit. They try to be face-to-face in the organization as much as possible so that they can really see things from their client’s vantage point. They’ve even built space within their new offices for a community center and they offer their conference rooms and various multipurpose meeting spaces for their clients to use. “Coworking spaces are growing in popularity but they’re not always accessible for nonprofits,” says Sexton. “We wanted to offer this opportunity to partners we work with, while also giving back to the community which has supported us so much over the life of the company.”In a nutshell, says Sexton, SCP “boosts organizations’ ability to complete missions they set out to accomplish for their cause. “Everything and anything that focuses on community, we’re always looking to partner with.”
